Wow. I have been so drained today! I woke up this morning feeling more exhausted than I felt before going to bed last night, and although I didn't sleep extremely well, it wasn't terrible sleep either. I had a headache last night as well, so I figured it and the exhaustion must be pregnancy related--or at least related to each other. A newsletter in my inbox this morning confirmed my suspicions: apparently I'm going through a hormonal overhaul this week--the placenta is taking over hormone production from my body (but wait--isn't the placenta a part of my body?), so I'm getting a hormonal switcheroo. Still not understanding it, though. At least I know I should be back to somewhat "normal" (whatever that is) next week. :) Yay! Sixish days and counting until the end of my first trimester.

I'm not really dealing with the nausea anymore (and I've been off the nausea meds for a week), so if I can just get past this exhaustion, I'll be able to really enjoy this miracle. Compared to my first two pregnancies, this is a speedy little miracle! I can't believe it's already been two months since we discovered our SLM (look up). Time is going so quickly. And Wednesday is the first of July, so the year is half over. You know what that means, right? Christmas. Christmas is almost here. As ready as I am for the weather to cool down and for me to pull out my Christmas mp4s on iTunes, I am just not ready for Christmas. And that is all because after Christmas, it's only a few short weeks away from the impending arrival of SLM. And as excited as I am about this pregnancy, it seems like it is going SO quickly.

Random Subject Change. Every Wednesday night in July, we are having what we call Kidz @ Nite at our church. It's basically a Kids' Church service on Wednesday nights. A little different because we will be having special guest skits every Wednesday night--we don't have skits every single Sunday. I imagine there will be other differences as well, but I don't know what all of them are yet. Trav and I will be heavily involved on these Wednesday nights, so July is going to pass quickly. But that brings me to my ultrasound and my visit to Arizona in August, so it's all good. I'm so glad my u/s is before I go to see my sister. I hope the baby participates!

August will be a busy month as well--Bethany's birthday is the third, my u/s is the eleventh, my mom's b-day is the 24th, and I'll be gone for a week somewhere in there!

SO many people at church are asking me if I feel the baby move yet, and I just want to ask them to stop asking. I don't, of course. Even more are asking if I know the gender yet. Some of these ask me EVERY week, and I want to tell them, "My u/s is August 11th--I told you that last week, and the week before that--and besides, my parents are the pastors of the church...don't you think they'd have announced it if we knew?" And if they didn't announce it and we knew, it's none of your business anyway....

But I am a nice pregnant woman. :) I do my very best not to take out my hormones out on people. I also try not to allow the temporary stupidity that pregnant women seem to induce in other people get to me too very much. But seriously, I don't think I can do another six months of, "you're getting SO big!" Why do people think that it's okay to say insulting things to pregnant women? Especially pregnant women who in the last two years just lost 60 lbs?

As negative as I may sound, I'm actually in a pretty good mood. This stuff bugs me, but it's funny sometimes too...at least for other people. So I figure my suffering can mean something if perhaps it makes you laugh. :) Hopefully you are out there. :)

Those of you who are mommies already or pregnant along with me--I want to know if you have experienced a strange phenomena that I recently experienced. A person who, prior to this pregnancy, probably would not have given me the time of day saw me, gave me a big small, and rushed over to give me a hug. Maybe my hormones are so strong they reached out and lassoed this person, I don't know...that could explain my exhaustion today. :) Well, it explains it better than a part of my body taking over hormone production from a part of my body so that my body is no longer putting out so many hormones. Huh? :)

On a sad note, I noticed just a little while ago that my favorite Old Navy yoga pants are getting a hole in them. In a spot where I will be unable to wear them once the hole actually wears through. Bummer. I don't know how much longer I would have been able to wear them anyway, but it's still a bummer to toss a fave pair of comfy pants.

Being serious here (and I know you'll probably laugh or think I'm crazy anyway), I think that dogs can sense, and possibly are affected by, pregnancy hormones. And I don't mean their own. I mean Pixie (my dog) has taken on some personality changes recently, and it's definitely been since I got pregnant. For one, she wants to be in my lap or right by me in bed (yes, she sleeps with us--has since she was a puppy) a lot more than she used to. She did this with my previous two pregnancies as well. She's also getting a bit more aggressive with the girls if they are running, hitting each other, or if they get too close to me with what Pixie deems as a potentially harmful attitude. And here's a funny one. :) She takes the rawhide (I think) chews I bought to help clean her teeth, and she carries them around the house, whimpering, until she finds a place to hide it. If one hiding place does not suit, she continues around the house, sometimes crying out as if in pain (not yelping, just crying), until she finally takes it under our bed. Or at least I assume it's under our bed because I haven't seen the five or six I've given her in quite some time now. I have yet to find her chewing on one. I don't know if she thinks we're going to forget to feed her, or if we're going to forget to feed the baby, or what--but I wish I could explain to her that although the baby might enjoy chewing Pixie's doggie chews, I really prefer that he/she not. :) She has always been a really good dog, but this is bordering a little on eccentric. :)

I guess I've gone on long enough. I hope that each of you (if you really are there) have a lovely week. Please feel free to leave comments so I know I'm not just writing for phantoms. :)

  1. Dogs are amazingly sensitive. Nina was really neurotic when we first brought the baby home, but she's always protective, so it was hard to pick up any extra "mothering" insticts when I was actually PG.

People always come up with weird comments to say to PG women...I totally don't get it, but I did develop a pretty good sense of humor about it. The thing that drove me crazy were the repeated questions, every week or even every day! How do you feel? with a sympathetic look. Are you having twins? with a look of shock. Etc. And even though I only gained 20-25 lbs in my PGcy, plenty of it was fat and I was sooo swollen from water weight and hormones that I just felt huge. Hearing that over and over again did not help matters. :)

You're beautiful - ignore them! They mean well and don't know how their words come across.

  3. Hey Misty, this is Sarah Brant (my name always displays funny on here)! You are so cute Misty, you are cracking me up with your post today! Lol! I totally understand how you feel. Just remember that when people say you are getting huge, they mean that your baby is growing and that you are looking cute. =) Because you really are looking so great! =) It must be fun to be pregnant now after losing all that weight. I was so overweight when I had Judah, it took so long for me to start showing... I'm definitely looking forward to next time. =)

I know what you mean about dogs being so sensitive to the pregnancy. The WHOLE time I was pregnant, my in-laws dog licked my belly every time he saw me. He is a huge dog and this was rather annoying, lol. Their dog is very playful and can get a little rough, but my whole pregnancy he was very careful around me, didn't jump on me, and stayed by me whenever I was in the house. And licked my stomach. EWWWW.

Well I better get going, got a crazy week ahead of me. Aggh! So much to do. =)

  4. My sisters dogs were really sensitve when she was pregnant. When she was farther along one of them would lay his head on her belly. it was cute. :o)
Oh, and when/if I ever get pregnant...if anyone dares touch my belly I might sock 'em. ha.

  5. marti, i always thought i would be *livid* if someone touched my belly during pregnancy. what actually happened was two-fold: 1) everyone, and i mean everyone, touched my belly, without my permission. 2) it didn't bother me. somehow my brain switched over & i began to think of people as trying to "love" on the baby, not stroke my fat, haha! :)

anyway, i surprised myself. who knows!

  6. Sarah, that is gross! Glad it's not your dog. :) And another big congrats on your weight loss--you look great! :)

Stef--you were very cute pregnant. At least the pics I saw! But I know it's harder when you're looking at yourself. I love how I look once I hit my third trimester (usually), because by then, the baby takes up so much room that the fat doesn't seem so obvious to me--it's just early on that I feel ick.

Marti--I responded to your comment in my newest post. :)
